World of Dance Comes to Courthouse Square

June 12, 2014

Huron County, ON – Everyone is welcome to celebrate Canadian diversity at the Huron Multicultural Festival on Saturday, June 21 from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at Courthouse Square Park in Goderich.

The third annual outdoor festival, which is free, features a stage show of musicians and dancers from around the globe and closer to home. Along with the stage show, festival goers can enjoy an international marketplace offering food from different regions and countries, children’s games and crafts, artisans’ international beer, sangria and other drinks.

The stage show this year has a dance theme and will feature demonstrations of traditional folk dances from Columbia and Mexico as well as Africa and Bhangra from India. Participants will have a chance to as try out their own moves as performers will lead the audience through a few group dance lessons throughout the day.

Along with the free music and dance, attendees can sample a variety of foods from around the world in the international marketplace. As in past years, the event is licensed and a variety of beverages from around the world will be available throughout the Festival grounds.

“We are so excited to bring these performers here to Huron County and to celebrate the diversity that exists in Huron while promoting the region to new Canadians,” said Jenna Ujiye, festival committee member. “Last year’s festival drew about 1,000 and we anticipate similar or slightly higher numbers again this year for this free community event.”

Bring a lawn chair or blanket to the Square and plan to spend the day enjoying the sights, sounds and colours of the world in your own backyard. There are lots going on for all ages. Huron County Library staff will be on hand to do international crafts with children and the YMCA is bringing international games and activities to the event. There will be even be piñatas throughout the day! A local artist will also be on hand doing henna.
