Provincial highway conditions
Road closures and re-openings
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are solely responsible for deciding when to close or re-open a road under the Highway Traffic Act. The information for southwestern Ontario is available by following the OPP’s Twitter account. Anyone can view this information online; you do not need to have a Twitter account to see it.
Significant Weather Events
When the County is experiencing weather that may affect our ability to maintain the County Roads at the service levels that road users would normally expect, we will declare a Significant Weather Event.

Reduced Road Maintenance Standard
A ‘Reduced Road Maintenance Standard’ can be declared on a temporary basis in the event that resources are unable to be deployed under one or more of the following circumstances:
- Public Works is unable to deploy a full complement of staff due to a human health event preventing qualified staff and/or contractors from reporting to work.
- Public Works infrastructure is unavailable due to a catastrophic event disabling multiple units in the road maintenance fleet.
- An emergency has been declared by Huron County and/or one or more municipalities within Huron County requiring the support of Public Works staff and/or equipment to assist in life safety response.
