Huron County Library Now Offering Curbside Service!

June 1, 2020

[Huron County, Ontario] – The Huron County Library is excited to announce that Curbside Service is now available at select library branch locations!

Curbside Service is being offered at the Goderich, Exeter and Zurich branch locations starting June 4th, and at the Wingham and Brussels branch locations starting June 9th. This service will be provided on Tuesdays from 1:00PM to 4:00PM, Wednesdays from 10:00AM to 1:00PM, and Thursdays from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.  All other library branches remain closed.

At this time, all curbside visits must be pre-arranged with Library staff by appointment.
For the first stage of this service, staff will be contacting patrons with existing holds that were placed prior to the library closures. Once these holds have been cleared, the online catalogue will be opened up to accept new holds. For new holds, Library patrons can visit the Library’s online catalogue at huroncounty.ca/library and ‘place a hold’ on their desired items.  After the items have been reserved, library staff will contact the patron to schedule a pick-up appointment.  Borrowed items can be returned using the book drop located at the same branch used for pick-up, or if previously borrowed, can be returned through the book drop of any branch offering curbside service.  All other book drops remain closed at this time.

Library staff are working hard to ensure that this service is provided safely.  Increased cleaning and sanitation protocols are in effect, and staff are using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), where appropriate.   All returned items will be quarantined for at least nine days before being put back into circulation.

Library staff would like to remind patrons that this is an ‘outdoor only’ service.  Patrons are kindly asked to not enter branch locations at any time and to continue practicing physical distancing during their service appointments.

“Offering Curbside Service at some library locations is so important for engaging within our local communities,” said Warden Jim Ginn. “The Huron County Library is eager to reconnect with valued patrons and lend print materials again so that any community member of our County can enjoy what our libraries have to offer”.

At this time, Curbside Service is being offered at only the few select branch locations. If the demand for physical items increases, the Library may consider expanding Curbside Service in the future to include additional locations, as necessary.
