County of Huron recognizes Emergency Preparedness Week

May 8, 2023

Huron County, Ontario – Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is happening on May 7-13, 2023. EP Week is a national awareness initiative that has taken place annually since 1996. It is a collaborative event undertaken by provincial and local emergency management organizations to help raise awareness of the importance of emergency preparedness for all Canadians.

EP Week is an opportunity for individuals to learn how they can become prepared to protect themselves, family members, and communities during an emergency. This year, the theme is Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.

“The County and its partner municipalities work hard to ensure we are prepared for all types of emergency situations,” says Warden Glen McNeil. “Every year, we work together to review and update our municipal emergency plans. This week is a great opportunity for community members to learn how to make a plan for their own households.”

Everyone has a role to play in an emergency. EP Week encourages Canadians to take three simple steps to become better prepared to face a range of emergencies:

  • Know the risks.
  • Make a plan.
  • Get an emergency kit.
