Museum Launches New Online Collections Website With Evening Event March 13

March 4, 2014

Huron County, ON – On Thursday, March 13, 2014, the Huron County Museum will launch its new online collections database with an evening event at the Museum. Visit the Museum at 110 North St. from 7pm-9pm for a first chance to explore the new website and its many features. In addition to previewing hundreds of historical photographs from the online collection, the event will also feature refreshments, a cash bar, a vintage-themed photo booth, and free admission. The launch of this website marks the end of the Henderson Digitization Project and the beginning of a new online presence for the Huron County Museum & Historic Gaol.

With funding from the Ontario Government, the successful completion of the Henderson Digitization Project allows the Huron County Museum to share a fascinating era of Huron County history with the world. During WWII, local photographer J. Gordon Henderson travelled to air training schools in Goderich (No. 12 Elementary Flying Training School), Port Albert (No. 31 Air Navigation School), and Clinton (No. 5/31 Radio School) to photograph staff, instructors, and air trainees. Over the past year, the Henderson Digitization Project team has scanned over 850 of these images, produced education programs and research about the collection, and developed an online collections database to make the images available on the web.

Join us as we celebrate making Huron County’s WWII history more accessible to local residents, veterans and their families, and everyone else around the world. For more information about this event or the collection, please call Jenna Leifso at the Huron County Museum, 519.524.2686 ext. 201. Visit the new online collections website at digital.huroncounty.ca (site will be live after March 13). Follow the Museum anytime on Facebook and Twitter.
