The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Homes for the Aged department is seeking a Casual Cook to Join the Huronlea (Brussels) team!

The role of the Cook is to prepare and cook meals and maintain all kitchen and preparation areas.

Role and Responsibilities
- Is aware of the Resident Bill of Rights and endeavors to respect and promote it.
- Prepare and cook residents’ meals, snacks, and desserts according to preplanned menus, recipes and procedures.
- Shares responsibility in the safe use and the maintaining of the equipment and supplies in the Home.
- Ensures efficient use of all supplies.
- Responsible to call all dangerous, unauthorized or unsafe conditions or situations to the attention of the Nutrition Manager in order that they may be corrected.
- Directs all inquiries regarding residents’ care and conditions to Registered staff member.
- Maintains a good attendance record and accepts responsibility for working as scheduled.
- Assists in training, guiding and supporting new staff through the orientation period.
- Work in accordance with sanitation and safety procedures.
- Replaces staff as required in the absence of the Nutrition Manager.
- Specific procedures will be listed on the job routines and/or assigned by the Nutrition Manager.
- Perform other duties as directed, within the expected scope of the practice of the Cook.
Qualifications and Education

NOTE: As of April 11, 2023, new and amended provisions to Ontario Regulation 246/22 (the “Regulation “ or O. Reg. 246/22) under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 related to long-term care staffing role qualification requirements came into effect.
Long-term care home licensees are not required to comply with the requirements set out in the Act or Regulation respecting staffing qualifications until 18 months after the coming into force date of section 388 (October 11, 2023), as long as the person holding the position, in the reasonable opinion of the licensee, has the adequate skills, training and knowledge to perform the duties required of that position. The licensee is required to terminate the staff member if they do not meet the applicable requirements under the Act and Regulation within 19 months after the coming into force of this section 388 (November 11, 2023).
- Every licensee of a long-term care home shall ensure that there is at least one cook who works at least 35 hours per week in that position on site at the home.
- Long-term care licensees may hire cooks with institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience (in place of the identified educational/training requirements) that the licensee is reasonably satisfied will allow them to perform the duties required of the position. Alternatively, licensees may hire cooks with the education qualifications specified in the Regulation.

Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions for the operation of equipment and in-service training.
- Demonstrates maturity and tact.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Effective communication skills and ability to relate to peers and seniors in a Long Term Care Facility.
Competitive Compensation
- $26.01 to $29.24 per hour; as per SEIU Collective Agreement
