Call for Submissions: Alice Munro Festival Short Story Contest

February 13, 2023

Huron County, Ontario – The Huron County Library is excited to announce the return of the Short Story Contest! The contest is provided by partnership between the Huron County Library and the Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story. Submissions will be accepted until March 15 and winners will be announced June 2-4 at the 2023 Festival.

The Alice Munro Festival celebrates one of Canada’s best storytellers, and the only Canadian to be awarded the Nobel Prize for literature.  While the festival will host established authors on the weekend of June 2-4, 2023, the Short Story contest allows for unpublished authors to submit their works for cash prizes!

All submitted works can be up to 2500 words, and only unpublished authors are eligible. The Adult contest, for authors 19 years and older, costs $25 per entry and has a grand prize of $1500. The Youth Contest, for authors up to 19 years of age, costs $10 per entry and has a grand prize of $500.

“While the festival itself is a great opportunity to connect with your favourite Canadian Authors, the short story contest is special because it shows how much creativity and talent is among us,” said contest organizer and County of Huron Programming and Community Engagement Coordinator, Jim Seale.
