Ontario’s West Coast Launches Taste Trails: A New Guide to Explore Huron County’s Local Food Scene

News type: Media ReleaseDepartment: Economic Development

Huron County, Ontario Ontario’s West Coast is serving up something fresh this summer with the official launch of the Huron County Taste Trails and Field-to-Fork Map, a self-guided experience that invites residents and visitors to discover Huron County’s rich food culture and agricultural abundance.

The Field-to-Fork Map is designed to help people connect directly with local food and beverage producers. As one of Ontario’s most agriculturally productive counties, Huron County offers a wide variety of farm-fresh goods, including fruits and vegetables, organic meats, cheeses, maple syrup, honey, and more.

“The goal of the Field-to-Fork Map is to make it easier for people to support local food and meet the people who grow and make it,” said Director of Economic Development, Vicki Lass.  “This is a great way to bring the community together and highlight the incredible work of our local producers, and experience firsthand the quality of the food, grown and produced in Huron County.”

The new Taste Trails draw from the larger Field-to-Fork Map to offer four visitor-friendly themed trails:

  • Farm Fare Trail: Visit local farms offering direct-to-consumer sales of fresh produce, meat, cheese, and handmade goods—all just a scenic country drive away.
  • Going to Market Trail: Tour farmers’ markets and specialty shops showcasing the best of the region’s locally grown and made products.
  • Homestead Harvest Trail: Discover hidden roadside stands and homestead producers offering fresh vegetables, flowers, and baked treats.
  • Vine & Ale Trail: Explore Huron County’s growing scene of wineries and craft breweries and enjoy tastings in beautiful rural settings.

Each trail offers a unique opportunity to discover Huron County’s local food landscape, whether you’re planning a weekend drive, stocking up on groceries, or seeking out one-of-a-kind tasting experiences.

To celebrate the launch, a special Huron County Taste Trails Event will be held on Saturday, June 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at nine participating farm and retail locations as well as two bonus stops across the county. Each stop will feature a unique visitor experience, from guided tours and product tastings to family-friendly activities and meeting local food vendors.

Participating locations include:

  • Bayfield Lavender Farm
  • Capella Meadows
  • Eat Local Huron
  • Bonus stop – Goderich BIA Farmers’ Market
  • Grazing Meadows Wagyu
  • Lavendar Works Co.
  • Meeting Place Organic Farm
