Huron Cultural Office

Huron Cultural Office

The Huron Cultural Office works collaboratively with a variety of local partners to contribute to a thriving community where diversity and tradition are celebrated and creativity and innovation are embraced for economic, social, and community wellbeing.

The work we do:

  • Celebrates diversity and facilitates local access to enriching cultural experiences.
  • Inspires creativity that reflects Huron County’s unique cultural identity.
  • Builds capacity through the County’s arts, culture and heritage sectors.

Cultural Events

The Huron Cultural Office hosts a wide variety of events each year at locations throughout Huron County.  Some examples of past events can be found below.  Stay tuned for more information on 2025 events!

Jane's Walk

Jane’s Walk Huron invites the community to explore Huron County’s rich heritage through guided walks taking place in multiple communities. Inspired by Jane Jacobs (1915-2006), an American-Canadian writer, urbanist, and activist who championed a community-based approach to city-building, Jane’s Walks are free events that encourage people to discover unseen aspects of their communities and to use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.

Huron Multicultural Festival

The Huron Multicultural Festival is a free outdoor festival that celebrates the customs and traditions of Canada’s diverse populations. The festival includes a stage show of music and dance from around the world, a global food court and marketplace, children’s activities, and licensed beer garden.

Main Street Arts Festival

The Main Street Arts Festival brings an immersive one-stop cultural experience to the village of Bayfield that celebrates creativity, culture and community spirit through art, music, food and drink. Watch for details about this event coming soon.

Community Engagement

The Huron Cultural Office facilitates a variety of cultural activities designed to encourage collaboration, growth, and transformation.

Huron County Museum Mural Project

In 2024, the Huron County Museum unveiled a new mural created by Anishinaabe artist Jeannette Ladd from Saugeen First Nation. Located in the lobby of the Museum, the piece shows that we are all connected to the sun, moon, stars, nature, and water, which need to work in harmony to provide a good life for everyone and everything.

Taste Like Home: Community Cookbook Project

Tastes Like Home, Around the World in Huron County, celebrates comfort, connection and creative expression through food. Following the success of the community arts project in the fall of 2023 that resulted in the publication of the first cookbook, a second cookbook was published featuring art and recipes from the Avon Maitland District School Board culinary students and multilingual language learners. They are available for purchase, while supplies last, through the Huron County Library and the Huron County Museum.

Huron Heritage Roundtable

The Heritage Round Table meets to discuss ideas, opportunities, and challenges facing the Huron County heritage community. Participants share resources and potential collaborations that may exist in Huron County. To learn more, email museum@huroncounty.ca

The Cultural Summit

Huron County’s Cultural Summit is an annual event that offers an opportunity to connect with fellow artists, creators, cultural enthusiasts, and community event hosts.  Participants will learn about best practises, participate in peer-to-peer discussions, and enjoy networking opportunities.
