The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Public Works department is seeking Seasonal Road Maintenance Students for the Wroxeter (2), Zurich (1) and Auburn (1) locations!

Position Summary

The estimated term of employment is from May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026.

This position requires a person to safely perform and assist other employees with various road maintenance and inspection activities.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Under the direction and supervision of full time staff, perform various activities such as:
    1. Traffic control
    2. Grass cutting
    3. Tree cutting and removal
    4. Sign installation and replacements
    5. Placing and leveling soil/gravel
    6. Seeding
    7. Pothole patching
    8. Various inspection activities
  • Safely operate various power tools and equipment.
  • Complete all tasks in compliance with all applicable safety legislation, regulations, guidelines and policies.
  • Student shall provide their own safety shoes, safety vests, work gloves and hard hats and safety eye-wear if prescription is required.
  • Hearing protection and non-prescription safety eye-wear will be provided.

Hours may vary.  Typically 10 hour days Monday – Thursday. 

Qualifications and Education

  • Grade 12 completion.
  • Pursuing post-secondary diploma or degree in trades or engineering field.
  • Class “G” drivers licence and a clean driver’s abstract
  • Candidates must be able to provide their own transportation to and from home and the assigned patrol yard, and could be assigned to any patrol in Huron County

Competitive Compensation

  • $18.21 to $25.34 per hour (based on education and experience) as indicated by the 2025 non-union student pay grid
