Personal Support Workers to Join the Huronview (Clinton) and Huronlea (Brussels) Teams!

Huronview and Huronlea Homes for the aged are Huron County’s municipal homes, providing health services for people who can no longer live independently in their own homes and need nursing and personal care 24 hours a day. As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to use your training and skills. If technology interests you, our care plans are computerized and orders are processed electronically. Our Personal Support Workers assist residents in performing activities of daily living and perform specific interventions as outlined on the individual care plans while working closely with the interdisciplinary team.

Role and Responsibilities:

Accountability:

  • Adherence to all policies, procedures and mission/vision/values statements of the Home.
  • Maintain professionalism with all residents, staff, families, volunteers, community members and agency representatives.
  • Maintains confidentiality and privacy of residents and staff as required under legislation and as per policies and procedures of the Home.
  • Accepts responsibility for the quality of care and service provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Is aware of the Resident Bill of Rights and endeavours to respect and promote it. Practices client-centred care.
  • Encourages and helps the resident with all activities of daily living and to meet their basic needs, through an understanding of the individual resident’s care plan. Assists in providing information for the forming of the care plan, including communicating the resident’s needs and choices.
  • Performs personal care and selected nursing measures to promote comfort and safety for the resident as per the plan of care and policies and procedures of the homes.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of the resident as a whole person considering cultural, spiritual, psycho-social, and restorative needs as well as an awareness of the activation programs available.
  • Observe and report, significant changes in the resident’s physical and emotional conditions to the Registered Staff verbally and in the resident’s computerized file in a manner that demonstrates respect and maintains privacy and confidentiality for each resident. Documentation includes observations of behaviours, staff interventions and resident responses to those interventions. Computer documentation utilizes data entry through the POC and PCC software in a timely manner
  • Helps to maintain a safe, clean, odour-free environment.
  • Shares responsibility for safely using and maintaining the equipment and supplies of the Home, and the personal belongings of the residents.
  • Ensures efficient use of supplies.
  • Accepts responsibility for the quality of care and service provided.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and the importance of providing a safe environment. Actively participates in all workplace drills for Codes Yellow, White, Red and Green, etc.
  • Directs all inquiries regarding resident’s care and conditions to the Registered staff member.
  • Maintains a good attendance record and accepts responsibility for working as scheduled. As a 24/7 operation it is accepted there is shift and weekend work is required.
  • Takes responsibility for personal development including identification of own learning needs related to work and participating in the educational opportunities provided and staff/team meetings.
  • Assists in training, guiding and supporting new staff through the orientation period.
  • Supports and participates in student and colleague education and participates in the teams of the homes.

Qualifications and Preferred Skills:

  • Graduate of a recognized Personal Support Worker program with supporting documentation
  • Demonstrates a focus on resident safety
  • Experience working with seniors and/or chronic care residents in a health care facility or community setting, with a genuine interest in and concern for seniors
  • Demonstrates maturity and tact
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing
  • The successful candidate(s) will be required to submit an original Vulnerable Sector Screening before the time of hire

Wage:

  • As per SEIU $24.10 – $27.19 plus 10% in lieu of benefits and 4% vacation pay.  Shift premiums vary.
  • A condition of employment is proof of COVID -19 immunization.
