Starter Company Plus Program Launches New Intake

Huron County, Ontario – Enrollment for the fall/winter intake for the Starter Company Plus program is now open. The program provides business training, coaching, mentorship and an opportunity to be awarded a grant of up to $5,000 for eligible participants to start, expand or buy a small business.

The intake enrollment form can be found online at ecdev.huroncounty.ca. Enrollment closes on November 30 at 4:00 pm. Approval into the Starter Company Plus program is a competitive process.  Following enrollment, there is a brief interview process and successful applicants will be notified no later than December 9, 2022. The program’s business training, coaching and mentorship components will run from January to March 2023.

To receive micro-grant funding, program participants will be required to submit a Grant Application Package which includes a business plan, cash-flow projections, SWOT analysis and the delivery of a 10-minute pitch for their business start-up or expansion concepts.

Successful recipients of the spring/summer 2022 intake for this program include:

  • The Cookie Rainbow (Blyth) is a baker specializing in gourmet custom cookies for all life’s special events including; birthdays, weddings, baptisms, graduation, corporate or promotional events, and delicious homemade cookies, tarts, macaroons, cinnamon rolls, muffins and sweet loaves. Charlene Hakkers, the owner and operator notes, “The Starter Company Plus program helped me make my dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur come true. I am confident that my business will be very successful with the knowledge I gained during the training and the one-on-one assistance from Business Coaches.”
  • Huron Auto Centre (Exeter) is an auto detailing company that provides valued customers with professional, high-quality paint and rust protection products and services to keep customers’ vehicles looking brand new, repel damage and retain resell value

The County of Huron, in partnership with the Province of Ontario, recognizes the importance of supporting entrepreneurs of all ages through their journey into entrepreneurship and through business expansion and aims to support them through the Starter Company Plus program. This program aims to address local and/or regional economic development needs, and where appropriate, focus on specific industries and sectors.
