Huron County, Ontario – Aspiring and established small business owners in Huron County are invited to apply for the 2026 intake of the Starter Company Plus program, opening July 1, 2026. Offered through the County of Huron’s Huron Business Centre, this program equips entrepreneurs with training, mentorship, and coaching to help them launch, grow, or purchase a small business. Participants also have a chance to receive a grant of up to $5,000.
“This program gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to step back from day-to-day operations and focus on growing their business,” says Brittany Wise, Manager of the Huron Business Centre. “Through training, mentorship, and practical planning tools, participants gain the confidence and knowledge needed to make informed decisions and support long-term success.”
Starter Company Plus is a competitive program that draws strong interest each year. To be considered, interested entrepreneurs must submit a completed application by 4:00 p.m. on July 31, 2026. Applications are reviewed as they are received, and selected applicants may be contacted by a Business Advisor for an interview to discuss their application and suitability for the program. Please note that not all applicants will be contacted or accepted into the program.
The program’s training and support components will run from September to November 2026, offering sessions on business planning, financial forecasting, marketing, and more. Participants will also receive personalized one-on-one business advisory support from experienced local business advisors.
“Each year, Starter Company Plus attracts entrepreneurs who are ready to take the next step in launching or growing their business,” says Tricia Denomme, Business Advisor with the Huron Business Centre and lead Advisor for Starter Company Plus. “The program provides participants with valuable guidance, practical feedback, and business planning support to help them refine their ideas, strengthen their operations, and move forward with confidence.”
To qualify for grant consideration, participants must complete a Business Plan Package, which includes a business plan, detailed cash flow projections, SWOT analysis, and other key planning tools. As part of the final stage, they will deliver a 10-minute pitch to an external Grant Review Committee for a chance to receive a grant of up to $5,000.
