Huron County, Ontario – Business owners across Huron County are invited to attend Main Street Matters, a one-day event happening Thursday, October 22, 2026 at the Goderich Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109 to celebrate Small Business Week.

Created specifically for small-town and rural retailers, Main Street Matters will bring together Huron County business owners, business support organizations, and industry experts for a day of conversation, connection, and practical learning.

“Lively and diverse downtowns are critical to the economic and social vitality of our communities, but they don’t happen by accident,” said Denise Van Amersfoort, Director of Planning & Economic Development for Huron County. “They develop through local investment, thoughtful planning and businesses that give people a reason to spend time in our communities. Main Street Matters creates an opportunity for retailers and community partners to discuss shared challenges and explore ways to help our main streets remain competitive and resilient while facing complex challenges.”

The Main Street Matters event agenda includes:

  • Current data and insights about Huron County demographics and local shopping behaviours;
  • A panel discussion with local retailers Sweets ‘N Treats (Wingham), The Run Parlour (Clinton), The Village Bookshop (Bayfield), and The Red Door Family Store (Goderich) to share how they’re adapting to current challenges;
  • Opportunities to connect with other business owners, local planning and economic development staff, and business support organizations; and
  • An optional hands-on afternoon workshop with visual presentation specialist Lana De Cosimo, focused on improving visual merchandising and maximizing sales potential.

Main Street Matters is presented by Huron Business Centre, in partnership with the Town of Goderich and Goderich BIA.

Half-day and full-day tickets are available, starting at $30 + HST.
