The County is working towards the creation of a dispersed, or scattered-site, model of supportive housing. Supportive housing aims to reduce or eliminate the need for emergency and cold weather shelters by providing individuals in-need with a home that includes year-round wrap-around supports and services.
From October 18th to 22nd, 30 small businesses across the county, chosen in consultation with local BIAs and Chambers, received a ‘coffee break’ delivery of locally-sourced pies and coffee from Huron County Economic Development as a gesture of appreciation for their impact on the local community. In honour of Treaties Recognition Week, guest speaker Randall Kahgee will share an overview of Treaties, including their historical and contemporary context, and how they govern the relationship between Indigenous people and the Federal and Provincial Governments, in a virtual event hosted by the Huron County Museum. The Summer Company program, administered by the County of Huron, aims to equip students with the tools they need to succeed, as they learn how to run a business, receive mentorship and training, and develop skills that are highly valued in all workplaces. Students between the ages of 15 and 29, who are returning to school in the fall, can apply to receive up to $3,000 in start-up funding and business coaching to run their own summer business.

The Huron County Digital Service Squad consists of trained specialists who are available to meet with brick-and-mortar small businesses at no cost to help them complete an online assessment and introduce them to online training modules to further build knowledge and skills.
To assist families accessing licensed childcare in Huron County, the County of Huron Children’s Services department is covering the childcare fees that families pay for the month of October, 2021. This support to families is being made available by utilizing funds received by The Ministry of Education from the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada.
The County of Huron, in partnership with the Province of Ontario, has awarded two Huron County entrepreneurs grant funding of $5,000 to support their start-ups and growth efforts through the Starter Company Plus program. Successful recipients are Les & Nel’s Kitchenette and Wilhemina Bakery.
The County of Huron, along with the Town of Goderich, Municipality of Huron East, and the Township of North Huron recently received funding through the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP), an opportunity offered through Natural Resources Canada, to install electric vehicle chargers in Huron County.
The Huron County Museum & Historic Gaol is pleased to announce the publication of its newest book, Prisoner Profiles: Unlocking the Secret Stories from the Huron Historic Gaol. Books are now available for purchase through the Museum Gift Shop for curbside pickup while the Museum and Historic Gaol remain closed to the public.
