County of Huron seeking applicants for boards and committees

Huron County, Ontario – The County of Huron is inviting residents to help make a difference in their community by applying to serve on one of three County boards or committees. Applications are currently being accepted for the:

  • Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee;
  • Huron County Library Board; and
  • Huron County Audit Committee – citizen representative.

“These boards and committees provide an important opportunity for residents to bring their experience, knowledge and perspectives to the work of the County,” said Huron County Clerk, Susan Cronin. “We encourage anyone with an interest in accessibility, public libraries, or municipal financial oversight to consider applying.”

All positions are voluntary and include a small honorarium and reimbursement of eligible expenses. Meetings may be held in person, virtually or in a hybrid format, depending on the board or committee.

Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee

The Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee provides advice to Huron County Council and member municipalities on accessibility issues related to municipal buildings, facilities and services. The committee also works with community groups on accessibility matters and supports efforts to create a welcoming, inclusive and accessible community. Members come from a variety of backgrounds. In accordance with provincial requirements, the majority of committee members must be people with disabilities.

Huron County Library Board

The Huron County Library Board is responsible for the governance of the Huron County Library and works closely with Huron County Council, which provides most of the funding for library operations. The Huron County Library serves residents through 12 branches across the County as well as through online services, providing access to information, resources, technology, programs and opportunities for learning and connection. Library Board meetings are typically held on the second Wednesday of the month in the morning.

Huron County Audit Committee

The County is also seeking a citizen representative to serve on the Huron County Audit Committee. The committee is made up of members of County Council and one citizen representative. It meets twice each year with the County’s external audit firm to review the audit plan, annual audited financial statements and audit findings, and to support the financial integrity and accountability of the County. The citizen representative is appointed for a four-year term and may serve a maximum of two terms.
