The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Human Resources department is seeking a temporary full-time Total Rewards Advisor!
Position Summary
This position provides support for internal customer service and helps drive HR excellence and process improvement. The Total Rewards Advisor is responsible for the coordination and administration of all aspects of the County’s rewards and benefits programs including health and dental for both union and non-union employee groups. The Total Rewards Advisor assists and supports our retirees through our retiree program, maintains and promotes the Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP), County Wellness, Employee Recognition Programs and represents the HR team as the HRIS lead. This position participates in strategic planning; ensures payroll information is accurate and timely and communicates and markets the County’s benefits and wellness programs.
*The position has a 35 hour work week. The term of the contract is approximately one (1) year to cover a leave of absence.

Role and Responsibilities
Benefits
- Oversee the administration of the County’s benefit programs for both union and non-union groups and maintenance of on-line database for our benefit carrier.
- Educates, advises, and assists employees with their benefit options, ensuring timely enrollment.
- Manage employee enrolments and determine employee eligibility ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Maintain and update employee wages on our benefit carrier’s online database.
- Update and maintain benefit records in VIP. Verifying employee benefit coverage is set up.
- Communicate with our benefit carrier and benefits advisor regarding plan changes.
- Assist with benefit plan renewal and rate adjustments.
- Maintain confidential employee information using benefit carrier database.
- Review countywide monthly premium statements from benefit carrier to ensure accuracy and correct any errors.
- Provide employee support for the County benefit plans. This includes assisting employees with claims, benefits cards, and general inquiries.
- Liaise with benefit carrier and benefits advisor concerning issues with plan members coverage, enrollments, and dependent coverage.
- Ensure related policies, procedures and protocols are relevant and current and communicate any recommended updates/changes.
- Complete annual audit of all plan members to ensure accuracy for Equitable Life.
- Survey industry trends. Complete benefit surveys and review information collected. Forecast trends and assist with future benefit design. Develop specific recommendations for review by management.
- Research benefits offerings from comparator organizations and summarize the findings.
- Responsible for gathering, tracking and analyzing data and information for various benefit programs to measure the success of program initiatives, return on investment and inform program/policy decisions.
Retiree Benefits and Support
- Contact for retiree support and benefit related inquiries.
- Provides retiree information package containing EFAP (Employee and Family Assistance Program) information, annual benefit rates and retirement gift options through our rewards program.
- Maintain benefit billing spreadsheet for invoicing purposes.
Employee and Family Assistance Plan
- Administrator for the EFAP program.
- Coordinates lunch and learn, programs and workshops as requested from various departments.
- Posting EFAP publications for employees on County Business on CountyNet.
Wellness Committee and Employee Recognition
- Manages the Wellness Program, including monitoring the budget line for Wellness, and acts as the Human Resources representative on the Wellness Committee.
- Coordinates wellness events and challenges representing the Wellness Committee.
- Manages and coordinates the Employee Recognition Program for the County of Huron, including monitoring the budget line for Special Events. Manages promotional items inventory and orders.
- Supports the County of Huron’s Mental Health Strategy and other programs.
- Organizes annual Service Award Ceremony, including employee gift order and certificates.
HRIS Human Resources Team Lead
- Represents the Human Resource department on the HRIS Core Team. Attending meetings and communicating with the HR team any updates specifically related to VIP.
- Approves assigned payroll change notices in Laserfiche.
- Acts as a backup to the Talent Acquisition Specialist and Health and Safety Supervisor ensuring leave of absences, new hires, terminations, and position changes are entered into VIP in a timely manner.
- Responds to VIP help tickets as assigned.
- Run, analyze, and action exception reports for each pay period.
- Export EMS scheduling from JBS and prepare information for import to VIP.
General Duties
- Creates electronic and physical personnel files and ensures confidentiality.
- Acts as lead for County level onboarding.
- Assigns mandatory new hire training and ensures completeness.
- Administration and promotion of employee discounts.
- Assists in ensuring the Human Resources department complies with the CARRS Records Management system and assists in maintaining the Human Resources T: filing system.
- Responsible for Human Resources communication posts to all staff.
- Participates in annual HR strategic planning session.
- Carrying out other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills
- Strong working knowledge of all relevant legislation and applicable regulations including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act as well as application of HR best practices.
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point) and HRIS (Human Resources Information System) related software. Working knowledge of WordPress would be an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to confidentiality, organizational skills, high level of detail, demonstrated good judgment, follow-up skills and good decision-making.
- Strong organizational skills to effectively set priorities/balance multiple competing responsibilities and demands, responding to employees’ needs in a timely manner.
- Interest in continuous learning in the field of Human Resources.
- Ability to prioritize multiple demands, exercise tact and discretion. Flexibility in adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong team player, with ability to proactively seek to support other team members.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with internal/external customers.
- Excellent administrative writing and research skills.
Qualifications and Education
- Completion OSSGD and a 3-year college diploma in Human Resources Management.
- CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) designation is considered an asset.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience demonstrated in Human Resources to include Group Benefit Plan administration.
Competitive Compensation
- $36.79 per hour; as per the 2026 non-union pay grid
- Payment in lieu of benefits
- Option to join an OMERS pension plan
