The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Planning and Development department is seeking an Temporary (one year) Full-time Office Administrative Assistant!

Position Summary

The position provides administrative support and assistance in the day-to-day operations of the Planning & Development Department and the Economic Development Department which are co-located at 57 Napier Street, Goderich.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Front line contact for public via walk ins, email, and/or telephone and directing them to the appropriate staff person or resources.
  • Software proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Access database, Excel, InDesign, Canva and Adobe Pro for creating accessible documents and fillable forms.
  • Support and assist professional staff in the day-to-day operation of the Departments.
  • Responsible for the administration and organization of a vast and varied amount of material to be available for use by professional staff, which makes for competing demands and frequent deadlines. There are frequent requests for information from the public, local municipalities, consultants, various agencies and special project groups;
  • Assist Planning and Development staff on special projects, such as the Water Protection Steering Committee; Sustainable Huron, Huron Stewardship Council; Perth-Huron Woodlot Association. Assist Economic Development staff with special projects such as the SLED Program, Ontario’s West Coast Signage Program, Tourism, Immigration Partnership. THRIVE Summit, Events Calendar, and Huron Business Centre projects and events. This will include management of membership/committee contact list(s), arranging venues and meals, preparation and circulation of agendas and materials, attendance at meetings for registration (may involve receipt of money) and note taking.
  • Provide support to the land use planning function of the Department including, maintenance of the status of all planning applications in the database, preparation and recording of planning fee applications, compiling planning fee statements for billing purposes to local municipalities. It will also include opening, maintaining correspondence, and closing planning files, both electronic and paper, and assisting with circulation of notices.
  • Assist staff with tracking monthly data, input to database and assistance with compiling monthly reports for County Council.
  • Assistance with development and updating of email databases, client management system (CRM), and social media accounts and website.
  • Provide professional assistance to and work with local municipalities, government agencies, professionals, business and volunteer organizations, and the general public.
  • Distribution of printed materials, update forms, zoning by-laws, official plans.
  • Coordinate large, often time-sensitive print jobs for the Departments with outside printers.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating Administrative procedures.
  • Maintain filling systems and Department records.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Education

  • 1 year post-secondary diploma in business administration or related field.
  • 2 years related office experience.
  • Knowledge of business related software, customer service, and municipal government.

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. The candidate must enjoy working with others in a busy office environment.
  • Software proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Access database, Excel, InDesign, Canva, and Adobe Pro for creating accessible documents and fillable forms.
  • Enjoys working in a collaborative team setting.

Competitive Compensation

  • $30.67 to $35.89 per hour; as per the 2025 non-union pay grid
  • Opportunity to opt in to an OMERS pension plan
