The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Cultural Services-Library department is seeking casual Library Relief Staff!

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing supply relief when regular staff are unavailable. Provides public library service to the community and surrounding area at a branch library by carrying out a variety of functions.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Serves library users at the circulation desk
  • Introduces new members to the library and explains services. Maintains up-to-date and confidential membership records
  • Checks books in and out
  • Notifies patrons of the arrival of requested materials. Problem solves as required in the absence of the branch manager.
  • Reference and Readers’ advisory services, including assisting patrons to find information in all formats.

Qualifications and Education

  • Preferred Education: 2-year Library Technician Diploma, Certificate in Small Library Management, or University Degree in a related field
  • Experience: 1-year of experience working in the library field or equivalent
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot new technologies
  • Ability to be flexible on the job
  • Proficiency in computer use
  • Access to a reliable vehicle

Competitive Compensation

  • $27.69 – $32.38 per hour, as per the 2026 non-union pay grid.
