The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Social and Property Services department is seeking Building Contacts for Blyth and Goderich locations!

Position Summary

**Locations: 299 Queen Street in BLYTH, and 211 Gibbons Street in GODERICH.**

The Building Contact acts as a representative of the County within the building during evenings, overnight hours, weekends, and statutory holidays, providing awareness of building activity and emerging concerns.  The role is responsible for responding to emergencies, coordinating with Housing Corporation staff and emergency services when required, reporting maintenance concerns and lease violations, and completing regular building checks to support tenant safety and building security.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Serve as an emergency contact for the County outside regular office hours, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. Monday to Friday, and 24 hours on weekends and statutory holidays. Response time during Building Contact regular hours is within 15 minutes.
  • Report emergency situations to Housing Corporation staff, as well as to fire, police, ambulance, and other relevant authorities as needed.
  • Report maintenance issues to the Property Services Department.
  • Report lease violations and illegal activities to the Supervisor, police, and any other relevant authorities.
  • Perform a daily walkthrough and complete a checklist, ensuring that all entrances and exits are secured.
  • Perform light maintenance duties outside regular office hours as needed, including salting walkways and changing garbage bags in the apartment building.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Education

  • Ability to interact tactfully with tenants.
  • Capable of making independent decisions within Housing Corporation guidelines.
  • Skilled in performing light maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions and submit periodic written reports.
  • A satisfactory police background check and vulnerable persons screening are required.

  • A rent-free apartment with a Housing, Board and Lodging taxable allowance
  • A cell phone is provided for business use
  • Additional compensation will be provided if the Building Contact is required to perform duties beyond the standard responsibilities.
