The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Homes for the Aged department is seeking a full-time Nutrition Manager for Huronview (Clinton)!

Position Summary

The Nutrition Care Manager works collaboratively with the Homes Management Team to plan, organize, coordinate, evaluate and continuously improve dietary services for residents at Huronview.   This position provides leadership for the dietary staff and supports an environment which promotes the mission, vision and values of the Homes. The Nutrition Care Manager is responsible for the quality of the food and dining service provided within the Home, adhering to the Fixing Long-Term Care Act 2021 (FLTCA) and Regulations, the standards established by the Homes and other related legislation, e.g. Public Health, Ministry of Labour, County by-laws and policies and procedures.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all dietary staff follow hand hygiene and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols consistently during food preparation, meal service, and handling of dishes or utensils.
  • Oversee food safety and infection control practices, including proper food storage, cooking, and handling procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Monitor cleaning and sanitization of kitchen equipment, carts, and work surfaces according to facility IPAC policies.
  • Implement isolation precautions for residents with infectious conditions, ensuring dedicated utensils, trays, and serving equipment are used appropriately.
  • Provide ongoing training and coaching to dietary staff regarding IPAC best practices, safe food handling standards, and outbreak management protocols.
  • Promptly report IPAC concerns such as hygiene breaches, equipment failures, or potential contamination risks or incidents to leadership

Operational and Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with legislation governing Long-Term Care, Food Services, Public Health, Ministry of Labour, Occupational Health and Safety, Resident Bill of Rights and ensure that the departments are working within these regulations.
  • Supervises the daily operations of the dietary department, including but not restricted to scheduling, ordering, meal supervision, catering, cleaning operations, staff supervision and other related duties.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental policies and procedures that align with departmental goals and objectives and the Homes mission, vision and value statements.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources department recruitment, performance development, and corrective or disciplinary action.
  • Attend Residents’ and Tenants’ Food Committees and respond to concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Oversee administration of clinical dietitian contracts.
  • Collaborates with the Registered Dietitian in ensuring residents’ nutrition needs are met, including proper documentation.
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) programs as well as other internal and/or external committee work as assigned.
  • Establish departmental related to food storage, meal service, sanitation, infection control, occupational health and safety, and staff performance.
  • Prepare and manage the departmental budget, including regular reporting of financial status and other relevant statistical information.
  • Ensure residents nutritional assessments and risk level needs are met
  • Ensure monthly documentation is completed accurately as per Ministry of Health guidelines.
  • Develop and implement a menu cycle in consultation with the Registered Dietitian to meet the resident’s nutritional needs and Ministry of Health Standards.
  • Maintain on-going evaluation of the menu with informal and formal input from residents.
  • Support the planning and coordination of special events within the Homes. And collaborate with other departments as required.
  • Continue professional growth.
  • Participate as a member of the palliative care committee
  • Attend residents’ council meetings as needed
  • Monitor food production systems and production rotation processes
  • Conduct regular audits related to food waste, production and inventory
  • Monitor and maintain the dietary operational budget
  • Utilize Meal Suites to ensure production quantities align with budget requirement.
  • Participate in the manager on call rotation

Qualifications and Education

  • 2-year Community College Diploma in Food Service and Nutrition Management from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ management experience in a health care setting, preferably in a Long-Term Care facility.
  • Member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
  • Successful Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Proof of immunizations including measles vaccination
  • Completion of a two-Step TB (Tuberculosis) screening test

  • Effective communication skills and ability to relate to peers and seniors in a Long-term Care facility.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to foster a positive, healthy, and respectful work environment through teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Maintains professionalism and contributes positively to the reputation and culture of the Huron County Homes. Collaborates with management team to provide ongoing educational opportunities to ensure competent dietary staff and to encourage personnel to work to the full scope of their position.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and support departmental personnel in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
