The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Public Works department is seeking a Seasonal Weekend/On-Call Snow Plow Operator for the Wroxeter location!
Position Summary
Maintains roads according to standards using heavy equipment, routine inspection and maintenance of heavy equipment, yards, and shop. Also performs duties of Winter Road Patroller as-needed. The term of the contract will be for the winter season; approximately from December 12, 2025, to April 9, 2025.

Role and Responsibilities
1. ENSURES ROADS ARE SAFE FOR PUBLIC USE THROUGH PLOWING, AND PLACING SAND/SALT/LIQUID ON ROADS AS REQUIRED.
2. INSPECTION OF EQUIPMENT TO ENSURE IT IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER PRIOR TO USE AT BEGINNING OF EVERY SHIFT. INCLUDES RECORDING AND REPORTING ANY AND ALL VEHICLE DEFICIENCIES.
3. AWARENESS OF OBSTACLES ADJACENT TO THE ROAD TO AVOID DAMAGE TO PUBLIC PROPERTY WHEN OPERATING PLOW – INCLUDING SNOW OFF THE WING.
4. ROUTINE INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE OF PLOW AND RELATED EQUIPMENT.
5. IN COLLABORATION WITH THE PATROLLER ON-DUTY, ASSESS THE ROAD CONDITIONS TO DETERMINE THE MOST APPROPRIATE COURSE OF ACTION TO BEST IMPROVE THE ROAD CONDITION (SAND / SALT / PLOW ROAD / DO NOTHING) BEFORE AND DURING THE SHIFT.
6. RESPONSIBLE FOR CVOR LOGGING OF ON-DUTY TIME AND ENSURES HE/SHE DOES NOT EXCEED REGULATORY LIMITS.
7. COMMUNICATE TO PATROLLER ON DUTY ON ROUTE ROAD CONDITIONS AND ACTIONS BEING TAKEN – PARTICULARLY AS CONDITIONS CHANGE.
8. APPLIES ANTI-ICING LIQUIDS AS-NEEDED.
9. OPERATING LOADER TO LOAD AND MOVE MATERIALS.
10. YARD AND BUILDING CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE AS DIRECTED.
11. OBSERVE AND COMMUNICATE ANY DEFECTS, HAZARDS, DEFICIENCIES, ACCIDENTS THAT EXIST ON THE ROAD TO THE LEAD HAND ON DUTY.
12. INFORM THE LEAD HAND OF ANY ON-THE-ROAD ISSUE WITH EQUIPMENT OR OBSERVED ACCIDENT OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
13. OTHER SHOP, EQUIPMENT, YARD, AND ROAD MAINTENANCE DUTIES AS NEEDED AS DEFINED BY ROAD MAINTENANCE 2 POSITION.
14. PERFORMS DUTIES OF WINTER ROAD PATROLLER AS-NEEDED.
Qualifications and Education
15. CLASS DZ DRIVER LICENSE
16. 1 YR OPERATING A TRUCK (I.E. TANDEM) IN A CONSTRUCTION OR MAINTENANCE ENVIRONMENT
17. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE HURON COUNTY PLOW OPERATOR TRAINING PROGRAM.
18. DRIVER ABSTRACT WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT VIOLATIONS
19. QUALIFIED TO OPERATE A CHAINSAW.

Competitive Compensation
- $31.14 per hour, as per the 2025 non-union pay grid.
