The Huron County Planning Department’s mission is to plan with the community for a healthy, viable and sustainable future. Our staff provide services to County Council, local municipal councils and to the public in the areas of land-use planning and environmental management. The department is responsible for the County’s Official Plan, which provides a broad framework to manage future growth and changes to our rural and urban landscapes. The plan is important to the health and prosperity of the County of Huron, guiding municipalities and residents on a variety of land-use and development issues. Land use planning means managing the use of land and resources. It helps decide where homes and factories should be built in our communities, where parks and recreation centres should be located, and where roads, sewers and other essential services should be provided. We are involved in many County-wide projects and initiatives, including:
