Summer Days of Discovery at Museum

June 10, 2014

Huron County, ON – Summer is once again upon us and the Huron County Museum has your day camps covered. The Huron County Museum and Historic Gaol are pleased to announce “Days of Discovery” Camps for summer 2014.

Registration is now open for the day camp programs as pre-registration is required. Children ages 5 to 10 are invited to take part in one or all of these fun-filled days. All camps run Wednesdays from 9 AM to 4 PM and cost $20 per child per day.

Campers will spend time exploring exhibits while learning about the history of Huron County. We will be adventuring outside for games and partaking in interactive theme-related activities, such as drama games, crime solving, and superhero training!

We have six exciting new camps for every camper! On July 9, Huron’s Got Talent will explore local Huron talent throughout the “Our Stories: People of Huron County”. Parlours, Picnics, and Pantomimes, on July 16, brings back the Victorian Era for the day as campers experience games, crafts, and a special visit to the Governor’s House at the Huron Historic Gaol. Come to Gaol! on July 30 to find out about the prisoners and turnkeys who passed through the large grey doors. Journey back to The Great Tract of Woodland on August 13 and investigate Huron County as an early settler and surveyor. Finally, learn about what it takes to be a superhero and create your own for Huron County at Superhero Academy on August 20.

This summer we are excited to introduce a day camp for our older campers! Children ages 9 to 13 are invited to Junior Curators on Wednesday, August 27. This camp will let campers go behind the scenes and into the Huron County Museum’s collection. Campers will experience hands-on artifact accessioning, handling, and exhibit building.
