Provincial Announcement Allows Select Businesses to Re-open

May 15, 2020

[Huron County, Ontario] – The May 14th Provincial announcement to enter stage one of the three-stage reopening plan allows select businesses to reopen with some restrictions as of Tuesday, May 19th. The County of Huron encourages businesses to only open if they are ready and have proper safety measures in place. It is important that Huron County businesses consider the health and safety of their staff and patrons first.

The Premier also announced that golf courses, marinas and public boat launches may open for recreational use as early as Saturday, May 16th. In addition, private parks and campgrounds may open to enable preparation for the season and to allow access for trailers and recreational vehicles whose owners have a full season contract. Individuals who choose to prepare their permanent trailers for the season are recommended to provision themselves with all necessary supplies from their home communities and respect public health directives in these parks.

To ensure that these first actions of reopening the province are a success, the public should continue following all Huron Perth Public Health preventative measures, including regular handwashing and staying home when ill. In addition, Huron County residents are reminded that physical distancing recommendations outlined by Public Health officials are still in place, including:

  • Maintaining a 2 metre (6 ft.) distance from others at all times;
  • Avoiding crowds or any gatherings of more than 5 people;
  • All non-essential outings are discouraged including day-tripping to local communities, and socializing with people not in your own household.

“While we are all excited about beginning the process of reopening our local businesses, we must continue working together and take a cautious approach.” says Warden Jim Ginn. “It is because of our recent efforts that we are able to enter this next phase, however it is important that we continue following the direction of public health officials as we navigate our way through this stage.”
