Huron Hygge wins national marketing award!

March 14, 2022

Huron County, Ontario – Huron County Economic Development’s tourism and marketing team has won the 2021 Marketing Canada Award from the Economic Developer’s Association of Canada (EDAC) for the 2021 Huron Hygge program.

Hygge (pronounced hue-guh) is a Danish concept that encompasses feelings of cozy contentment and well-being through the enjoyment of the simple things in life.  The County of Huron’s Economic Development Department leveraged this concept as a winter marketing campaign to support the local tourism sector through the first winter of the pandemic.

2021 Huron Hygge activities were specifically developed to engage residents and support local business during a time when pandemic restrictions were high.  Virtual and safely distanced activities encouraged interpersonal and community connections as well as support for Huron’s local economy.  In winter 2021, the Huron community was cooking with locally sourced ingredients, enjoying take-out paired with virtual concerts and social activities designed to be enjoyed from home.  They were creating art and making crafts, rejuvenating with wellness programs, and so much more.

“Congratulations to Economic Development’s tourism and marketing team for this well-deserved recognition,” said Huron County Warden Glen McNeil. “The creativity and innovation shown in response to the pandemic has been nothing short of outstanding.  The Huron Hygge program is a jewel in the County’s portfolio that I’m deeply proud of, and I’m sure residents and businesses will be enjoying the hygge lifestyle for years to come!”
