Huron County Celebrates Welcoming Week

Huron County, Ontario – Nearly a dozen events across Huron County are planned in conjunction with this year’s annual Welcoming Week event, happening from September 9 to 18.  People are encouraged to join activities such as the Huron Multicultural Festival, a ‘new neighbour’ barbecue, a movie night, hikes and more!  Welcoming Week is a time to unite and to welcome new neighbours.

Welcoming Week is an annual campaign and celebration to showcase the movement of communities striving to be more welcoming places for all, including immigrants.

This year’s Welcoming Week marks the tenth anniversary of what is now a global event.  This is Huron County’s second year participating.

“It is a privilege for me to welcome everyone as we celebrate Welcoming Week 2022.”  Said Huron County Warden Glen McNeil.  “We want to enable all of our new residents to enjoy everything that Huron County has to offer as we continue to thrive and support each other”.

In Huron County, the following events are being organized this September:

  • Movie night at the Huron County Museum, September 8
  • Welcome hike at Maitland Woods, September 10
  • Huron Multicultural Festival, September 11
  • Wingham Volunteer Fair, September 11
  • Welcome hike at Sifto Loop, September 14
  • Webinar – Welcoming and Inclusive Workplaces: How to Recruit and Retain Talent, September 15
  • Welcome to Wingham meet-up, Wingham Library, September 15
  • Exeter Volunteer Fair, September 16
  • Get to know your neighbor barbecue at Clinton’s Harvest Festival, September 17
  • Welcoming Week Window Display Contest, September 9 – 18

Welcoming International is an initiative that consists of several programs: The Welcoming International Alliance of peer national networks supporting local actors to advance immigrant inclusion at the community level across the world, local-to-local learning exchanges, and technical assistance to national institutions on welcoming standards and strategies.
