Free Outdoor Movie Night Coming to Goderich

May 22, 2015

Huron County, ON – A tobacco-free family event, including a free outdoor movie, takes place at Lions Harbour Park June 5.

The Huron County Health Unit, in partnership with the Maitland Valley Family Health Team and the Goderich-Huron and Central Huron YMCAs, will present “How to Train Your Dragon 2” as part of the tobacco-free event.

There will also be activities promoting tobacco-free living, such as button making and a trivia wheel. There will also be an inflatable “Viking ship” and healthy snack preparation workshops.

Activities begin at 6:30 PM. The movie begins at dusk. Please bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on.

This tobacco-free, family-oriented event brings attention to the role of media messaging and tobacco use.

“Since most movies with smoking are rated for kids and teens, they can have a big influence on kids to start smoking,” says Public Health Promoter Samantha Docherty. “This helps the tobacco industry recruit a new generation of customers.”

The Goderich Scouts will sell refreshments at the outdoor movie event and youth volunteers will gather public support to address the issue of smoking in movies rated for children and youth.

The free movie will take place rain or shine. The rain location is the Goderich YMCA Maitland Recreation Centre at 190 Suncoast Drive, East.
