County launches public airport feasibility study

June 22, 2017

Huron County’s two publicly owned airports are being studied to determine the best uses of these infrastructure assets going forward.

Due to their experience developing innovative solutions to increase the value and competitiveness of small and medium sized airports throughout Canada and the northern US, Explorer Solutions of Montreal has been hired to lead the assessment, which is in its initial stages.

The work will review current airport operations for efficiencies, identify shared-service opportunities, explore ways to reduce costs and increase both aviation and non-aviation based revenue.

Capital investment requirements to maintain the viability of these assets over the next 20 years will also be determined. The results of the study are expected before the end of this year.
