Seasonal Museum Assistants

The Huron County Museum and Historic Gaol has student seasonal employment opportunities. The positions will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Museum & Historic Gaol, provide visitor services through the summer season and conduct special research or public projects.

2018 projects may include education programs and outreach, exhibit development, collections work or archival cataloguing. The ideal candidate will enjoy serving the public, be an independent worker and have an avid interest in local history.

Hours of work:

  • May through September 1st  –  30 to 35 hours per week as scheduled, weekends required
  • Hours of work generally fall within 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Evening work is required for some positions


  • Hourly wage ranges from $14.62-$15.35 per hour, grant-dependent


  • Available to start May 1st
  • Demonstrated interest in local history, culture and heritage
  • Creativity & ability to problem solve
  • Excellent organization, writing skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal communication and enthusiasm for working with the public
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Previous experience with photography, data entry and/or working with children an asset
  • Experience working with cash is an asset
  • A police security clearance check may be required prior to hiring

Some seasonal employment opportunities and projects are grant dependent.  Students should qualify under the Young Canada Works in Heritage Institution program:

  • Be between 16 and 30 years of age
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Be returning to school in the fall
  • Be registered with YCW candidate inventory–
  • Preference is given to candidates who have not already been hired under Young Canada Works
