Requires a
Temporary Junior Economic Development Officer-Business (Student Position)
Position Summary:
The Junior Economic Development Officer position is a full-time, temporary summer student position that supports the work of Huron County’s Economic Development department.
8-week position beginning as soon as possible, to August 22nd, 2022.
Role and Responsibilities:
- work with EDO to Design and populate a county-wide inventory of vacant industrial lands;
- Work with EDO to Design and populate a county-wide inventory of vacant commercial properties;
- Support internal data management efforts;
- Support the Department’s data analysis functions, particularly as they concern commercial property vacancy data collected in Huron County;
- In conjunction with County EDO, Explore Options for a template and Develop community profiles for use in Resident Attraction and Investment Attraction; and,
- Take a key role in the development of a high-profile youth engagement, to be designed in conjunction with County Staff and with Countywide youth input.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Education: Entering the final year of secondary school or currently enrolled in a post-secondary program.
- Strong skills in communication, time management, organization, computer literacy, and problem-solving.
- This role requires a self-starter with well-developed numeracy, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- The position is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program which requires eligible students to be between 15 and 30 years of age.
Preferred Skills:
- Driver’s license, good driving record, and access to a vehicle;
- Knowledge of the Huron County economy or of economics or business management more generally are significant assets; and,
- Competence in using Microsoft Excel is a significant asset.
Wage:
- $14.01 per hour (High School), $16.37 per hour (College, University, Undergrad); as per the 2022 non-union student wage grid.
