The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Business Technology Solutions department is seeking a GIS Student!
Position Summary
Reporting to the GIS Coordinator, the GIS Student is responsible for assisting GIS and other County staff as applicable with research, analysis, data input, mapping, web capability, and supporting GIS systems (including hardware and software).The GIS Student is expected to assist the GIS team in the creation of GIS products that support diverse functions and services of the County. This includes data analysis data input, data corrections, mapping, web capability and support systems including hardware and software.

Role and Responsibilities
- Mapping – creation of maps as requested by county departments/partner municipalities/public/other; development and modification of datasets; use of printers/plotters/large format scanner.
- Data creation & management – editing spatial, attribute and metadata (including digitizing and importing from mobile devices); creation of new datasets through spatial analysis; quality control to maintain accuracy; work within protocols for ESRI ARCGIS software.
- Customer service – inquiries and requests from staff and public; provide requested materials in timely fashion.
- Participate in field work under the guidance of the Forestry Conservation Officer for the purpose of data collection, app creation, mapping, and reporting.
Qualifications and Education
- Be enrolled in a university degree or college program in geographic information systems (GIS), geography, environmental science, computer science or related discipline.
Additional Notes
- Access to reliable transportation, willingness, and ability to travel to various County of Huron locations as required
Competitive Compensation
- College/University level – $17.72/per hour as per 2024 Non-Union Student Wage Grid
- Masters level – $21.92/per hour as per 2024 Non-Union Student Wage Grid
