requires a 

Part-Time Building Custodian

The Building Custodian is responsible for maintaining apartment buildings and County municipal buildings, to a high level of maintenance, care and cleanliness through the performance of minor repair and maintenance tasks, including some ground maintenance, and the practice of generally accepted cleaning methods. Preparation and cleaning of multi-residential and single family vacant units.

This position is located in Wingham, Ontario.

Minimum Job Specifications

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • 2 years experience working in a multi unit residential environment
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Occasional after hours and weekend work may be required

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing
  • Ability to deal tactfully with tenants and members of the public
  • Good knowledge of cleaning procedures, and general maintenance repairs
  • Minor grounds keeping and experience in the use of various tools and equipment
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and life safety building systems would be an asset
  • Valid First Aid and WHMIS certificates or ability to obtain
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimum supervision


  • Janitorial duties including cleaning of all common areas, changing light bulbs, garbage and recycling removal.
  • Stripping and waxing of floor surfaces
  • Preparation and cleaning of vacant units in apartment buildings and single family residences
  • Minor maintenance, plumbing, and, painting repairs
  • Inspection, monitoring, and minor maintenance of life safety systems
  • Assisting contractors and other staff as required
  • Inventory control & record keeping
  • Other duties as assigned

Wage: 2019 Non-Union Grade 4 $24.86.
