Museum Assistant (HIGH SCHOOL)

The Huron County Museum and Historic Gaol has a part-time student employment opportunity. The position will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Museum & Historic Gaol; the successful candidate will provide visitor services and may offer assistance with special research, collections or public programming projects. The student employee will assist with rentals, special events and educational programs including day camps.

The ideal candidate will be a high school student who enjoys engaging with the public, be an independent worker and have an avid interest in local history.

Hours of work:

  • May through June– part-time (up to 35 hours per pay period, or every two weeks), primarily evenings and weekends as scheduled
  • Extended hours in July and August (up to 70 hours per pay period), including week days
  • Occasional evenings and weekends during the fall and winter

Wages: Starting at $13.54 2020 Non-Union County High School Student


  • Full-time high school student
  • Available to start in May, 2020
  • Available to continue occasional evening and weekend work through the fall, winter and spring
  • Demonstrated interest in local history, culture and heritage
  • Creativity & ability to problem solve
  • Experience working with children or youth
  • Excellent organization, writing skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal communication and enthusiasm for working with the public
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with cash is an asset
