Celebrate Family & Heritage Day
Goderich, Ontario - Bring your family and friends to enjoy Family & Heritage Day 2010 at the Huron County Museum. To celebrate, the Huron County Museum will be open Monday, February 15th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm with FREE admission.
For Heritage Day 2010, Canada’s Olympic year, the Heritage Canada Foundation is celebrating the Heritage of Sport and Recreation.
Across Canada, sports and recreation activities have always played a central role in building social unity and community involvement. The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw an expanding variety of athletic activities being promoted—from lacrosse, curling and hockey, to boating, skiing and hiking.
Canadians were quick to embrace these sporting pleasures. To this day, communities both large and small possess a legacy of sports and recreation.
The XXI Olympic Winter Games will be celebrated across our Country during the month of February. Join us at the Huron County Museum on Family Day as we celebrate with our own Olympic games.
Indoor games, activities and crafts with a focus on the winter Olympic sports to be enjoyed by future Olympians, their families and all our visitors. Take part in games adapted from current Olympic sports such as handcrafted marble maze skiing races. Enjoy “The Sweater” movie or story in our theatre. Sign your own personal Olympic message to be sent to our Canadian Olympic athletes at the Games in Vancouver.
While at the Museum take the time to investigate and explore the many and varied Museum exhibits.
Our special temporary exhibit currently on display is “In Their Own Words: Diaries and Letters.” The exhibit features 8 diaries from across Huron County dating from 1859 to 1931. Dominion Day picnics, baseball games, and skating parties are just a few of the special events that these Huron County authors enjoyed with their families and friends.
Before leaving the Museum, add your own entry to our Huron County Museum diary telling us about your fun-filled day at the Museum’s Family Day celebrations.
