Household Hazardous Waste Depot Opens

Goderich, Ontario - The County of Huron is pleased to announce the official opening of its first year-round Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Depot located at the Mid-Huron Landfill in Holmesville on May 6, 2009.

The opening of a year-round Household Hazardous Waste Depot will change how the County manages household hazardous waste and will redefine the future of household hazardous waste disposal in Huron County.

Since 2003, three mobile one-day event depots were held each year across the County to collect and properly dispose of household hazardous waste. The establishment of a permanent, year-round depot is intended to attract and encourage a greater number of Huron County residents to properly dispose of hazardous wastes from their households.

To encourage increased usage and to increase waste disposal volumes, the Holmesville depot will implement more flexible and convenient operating times in order to provide greater service.

The depot is open to all County residents, FREE of charge.

The new year-round Hazardous Waste Disposal Depot will extend the total number of collection hours in Huron County from 18 hours, 3 days a year to 2236 hours, 286 days a year. The hours of operation are:

Monday to Friday - 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Saturday - 8:00 AM to Noon
Sunday and Holidays - Closed

Many common household products contain hazardous chemicals, which if not disposed of properly pose a serious threat to the health of your family and the environment. The Huron County Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Depot provides County residents with a new opportunity to dispose of waste properly and to keep hazardous materials out of landfills and drinking water supplies.

No PCB’s, commercial, infectious or radioactive wastes will be accepted. The listing of Accepted Wastes include:
