Free Outdoor Movie Night in Seaforth

August 4, 2016

Huron County, ON – Family fun is back in the form of a free movie night at Victoria Park in Seaforth on August 13th. Families are invited to come out and watch Zootopia, an animated children’s movie about a crime fighting rabbit.

The movie is part of a tobacco-free event which includes activities such as button making, a trivia wheel, and promotion of tobacco-free living, physical activity and the benefits of drinking water. Snacks will be available for purchase from local vendors and there will be a water re-fill station, so please bring your water bottles as well.

Activities will begin at 7 PM followed by a local youth band who will provide entertainment before the movie begins at dusk. Please bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on.

Organizers say this family-oriented event brings attention to the role of media messaging and tobacco use.

“Since most movies with smoking are rated for kids and teens they can have a big influence on kids to start smoking,” says Public Health Promoter Samantha Docherty from the Huron County Health Unit. “This helps the tobacco industry recruit a new generation of customers.”

Youth volunteers will also be addressing the issue of smoking in movies rated for children and youth at the event.

The free movie will take place rain or shine. The rain location is the Seaforth and District Community Centre, located at 122 Duke St Seaforth.

The event is hosted by the Huron County Health Unit, in partnership with the Municipality of Huron East, Healthy Kids Community Challenge and the Huron East/Seaforth Development Community Trust.
