Fakes & Forgeries: Yesterday and Today

Available May 9 to June 28, 2011 only
Traveling exhibit from the Royal Ontario Museum
Can you tell the true artifact from the fake? This interactive exhibit presents 115 real and fake objects that run the gamut from historical specimens and cultural artifacts to household items and designer name brands. Students are invited to guess which objects are real and which are clever fakes. Learn how to tell authentic pieces from sly forgeries and discover the fascinating lengths forgers will take to hoodwink the unwary!

Explore our special temporary exhibit 60 Years of Collecting and compare our collections to your own collections at home. Learn about our founding curator Joseph Herbert Neill and decorate your own paper craft based on Mr. Neill's two-sided cat. Will you be able to fool people as he did?

Curators and Curiosities

Learn about the development of Museums from cabinets of curiosities to buildings such as ours. Investigate the life and work of our founding curator and explore the Museum behind the scenes to discover some of our own curiosities. Is this a future career for your students?

Investigate inventions that have changed our lives and the lives of people who came before us as we explore the homes, workplaces and tools of the past. Become an inventor of the future with a blueprint of a new invention of your own.

Salt of the Earth

Available at the Huron County Museum

Explore the history of salt mining in Huron County. Investigate the many uses of salt, how it is produced and what it is really like in the salt mine. Test yourselves with our salt mine jeopardy game to wrap it all up.

Gaol Programs

If These Walls Could Talk

Discover life behind the stone walls at the Huron Historic Gaol. Follow early inmates from courtroom to cell and compare the life of prisoners with the life of their governor.
