As an educational facility, the Huron County Museum & Huron Historic Gaol allows students to investigate various historical, social, and technological themes relating to the history of Huron County. Involvement through hands-on activities is encouraged in every programme. All programmes are designed to help teachers meet the expectations outlined in the Ontario Curriculum.

All Aboard! -
Gr. 1 to 3
Travel through the Huron County Museum as we investigate different ways of moving around. Learn how to build a ship, drive a team of horses and power a steam locomotive. Get your passport stamped along the way in order to receive your very own going away present.
Busy as a Bee - Gr. K to 3
You have arrived at your new homestead. Imagine trying to build a whole barn yourself – just you and your family. Imagine trying to make enough supplies to last the winter for your whole family – by yourself. Investigate the idea of the work bee and how it made everyone’s life a little easier. Examine the tools and manpower needed for a barn building bee and get together with the neighbours for a quilting bee.

Join us with your class at the Huron County Museum to celebrate the holiday season! Investigate our seasonal exhibits of Breckenridge model trains, children's toys, and gifts galore! Explore traditions of gift giving, Christmas cards and the holiday season. Make your own Christmas decoration to take home and of course enjoy our traditional snack of cider and cookies.
Our First Curator - Gr. 6 to 8
Investigate the Huron County Museum’s founding curator (life and work). Learn about Museum work in present times and try your hand being a curator yourself.
Salt of the Earth - Gr. 4 to 8
Explore the history of salt mining in Huron County. Investigate the many uses of salt, how it is produced and what it is really like in the salt mine. Test yourselves with our salt mine jeopardy game to wrap it all up.
Through a Child’s Eyes - Gr. K to 3
Explore 19th century life through the eyes of a child. Learn what it was like at school and at home with work and play. Practice your penmanship on slate and graduate to nib pen & ink. Explore life at home and on the farm and experience a little fun along the way at the Huron County Museum.
Huron Historic Gaol Programs
If These Walls Could Talk - Gr. K to 12
1 to 1 ½ hours
Register your students at the Huron Historic Gaol to discover life behind the stone walls. Follow early inmates from courtroom to cell and compare the life of prisoners with the life of their governor.
