Corporation of the County of Huron Planning & Development Department Requires a GIS (Geographic Information System) Technician Temporary 12 Month ContractThe Huron County Planning and Development Department requires a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Technician for 35 hours per week, for a time period expected to last approximately 1 year, beginning in September, 2010. The office is located in Goderich. The Planning and Development Department, in cooperation with all County departments, is building its GIS capability to provide data management, analytical and mapping services that support the multiple functions of the County government. The GIS Technician will be responsible in assisting the GIS Specialist with research, analysis, data input, system management, liaison with all levels of government, mapping, web capability, and support systems including hardware and software. Qualifications: - Post-secondary education (preferably in geography, environmental studies, computer science or related program) with a GIS Specialist certification;
- Proven success with GIS software including ESRI applications (ArcGIS, ArcIMS, etc.);
- Experience with data management, data sharing agreements, computer hardware, networks, and web applications.
- Proven ability to contribute effectively in a dynamic team environment;
- Strong skills in communication, time management, organization, cartography, and problem solving;
- Knowledge of Municipal and County responsibilities and functions;
Wage: Rate of pay is Non-Union Grade 5 $22.60 - $25.34
