Winter weather can be unpredictable, creating challenging driving conditions, especially in "snowbelt" regions. Drivers are urged to use extra caution during the winter season. Stay alert, slow down, and stay in control are the three keys to safe winter driving.
Slow down when you see the flashing blue light; it's important to let snowplow operators safely clear our roads. Be patient and stay well back when snowplows are out on the roads.
For winter road conditions, please listen to local radio stations. Decisions on area road closures are determined by the Ontario Provincial Police, not our department.
During winter months area radio stations provide regular announcements about school closures, bus delays and cancellations, weather and road conditions. This information may also be available on their websites and be useful in determining travel conditions. Please remember winter conditions can often change faster than the updates.
