What is the Good Food Box?
The Good Food Box provides Huron County residents with local vegetables and fruits monthly. It is a community-based project that relies on volunteers. Buying in large quantities from our local producers allows us to get better pricing. The result is that the consumer gets better value.
Who can order the Good Food Box?
Anyone in Huron County. The Good Food Box is not a charity or a food bank.
How much does it cost to join?
There are no membership fees and no hidden costs. You pay for the food boxes you order. Each box is $15.00.
Why should I buy the Good Food Box?
Good Value: We buy in bulk and pass the savings on to the customer. You can save up to 40% off grocery store prices!
Healthy: You get a wide variety of healthy vegetables and fruits. Occasionally we have new and different items and include exciting recipes in the newsletter that comes with the Good Food Box.
Local: Food is purchased from local wholesalers and suppliers when possible.
Fresh: The produce we buy often comes straight from the farmersÂ’ fields to your table the same day.
Nutritious: There is a variety of staples and many different kinds of vegetables and fruits. Kids love the boxes and their families tell us that they all eat more fruit and vegetables.
How do I place my order?
On the first Friday of each month, orders are taken at the neighbourhood host site. All orders must be pre-paid in cash ($15) at the time they are placed. Contact the Huron County Health Unit to find a host site near you or refer to the list of locations found online.
When do I receive my Good Food Box?
Pick-up date is the third Thursday of each month. Orders are picked up at the host site. Check with your host site about when orders must be picked up.
How often do I have to order?
There is no obligation to order every month. However, we encourage customers to try boxes over a two or three month period. Box contents vary according to season and availability.
