PRISM - Frequently Asked Questions

What is PRISM-911?
PRISM-911 is a county-wide emergency notification system used to keep Huron County residents and businesses informed during an emergency or disaster.

How can I sign-up to receive notifications?
Huron County residents are asked to sign-up only once using one of the following convenient methods:

  • Sign-up online by completing the online Resident Information Form
  • Sign-up through mail or fax by downloading a registration form, or using the form provided by your local municipality in your recent property tax notice, and sending it to PRISM-911 at the address/fax number listed on the form

What does it cost to register?
There is no cost to register for this service. By registering your contact information with PRISM-911, you will be kept informed of local, wide-spread or regional emergencies affecting your community. Time-sensitive voice messages from the County of Huron about emergency situations may be sent to your home, cell or business telephone.

Do I have to be a property owner to be registered?
No. PRISM-911 resident information forms have been sent out by all local municipalities in Huron County in tax notices for each property, however, if you rent property it is your responsibility to provide your contact information.

I don’t know my property roll number, does that matter?
If you rent, or do not know this number, still complete a resident information form providing as much information as you can. The property roll number is a 19-digit number assigned to each property. It may be found on your property tax or assessment notice.

It is important and recommended that you provide your phone number(s), address and e-mail address by registering through the PRISM web site. Each address location can have up to three phone numbers and one e-mail address.

I only have a cell phone – do you want that number?
You can register your cell phone or any other alternate number connected with a specific address. We also need your address as calls are made to specific geographic areas such as streets, neighbourhoods, or townships based on the emergency situation.

If I register my cell phone or e-mail address, will that information remain confidential?
Yes, all information you provide will be kept confidential. It will only be used for the emergency notification process. Under no circumstances will your information ever be sold or used for commercial purposes.

What types of messages will be sent using PRISM-911?
Calls from PRISM-911 are pre-recorded and the speaker will clearly say that this is an emergency call from the County of Huron. If the call is a test of the system, it will be clearly stated in the message.

PRISM can be used to quickly notify the Public during emergencies such as boil water advisories, missing person reports, evacuation notices and other emergency-related alerts.

Who do I contact if I have more questions?
If you have additional questions, please contact the Manager of PRISM-911 at 519.524.8394 ext 711 or e-mail PRISM911 [at] huroncounty.ca
