Deciding on a child care setting that provides a safe, friendly, nurturing environment for your child, and conveniently fits your schedule can sometimes be difficult; especially if flexible hours of care are required.

Licensed home child care provided in a family-like setting for infants, toddlers, and pre-school and school-age children, up to 12, may suit the needs of individual families. Children from the same family can be cared for together, often near their own home or school. Caregivers, usually called providers, use their own homes to care for up to five children; occasionally providing child care beyond the regular operating hours of community child care centres, including evenings, weekends and overnight.

Home child care providers in Huron County are self-employed business people engaged as independent contractors with Huron County Community Home Child Care. These providers are required to follow policies and procedures approved by Huron Home Child Care and meet the requirements of the Day Nurseries Act. They are screened prior to approval and their homes are routinely inspected.

Licensed home child care provided through Huron County Community Home Child Care has many advantages:

  • Access to appropriate home-based child care services for eligible families in their own communities or those in which they work
  • Home-like atmosphere that fulfills individual needs of each child
  • Support for parents in their efforts to work or attend school
  • Safe, friendly, nurturing environment in which child can learn and develop
  • Availability of Resource Consultant support, with the consent of parents

Licensed Home Child Care accommodating before and after school care, evenings, weekends and overnight needs is available throughout Huron County, with homes approved on an ongoing basis. A complete listing of providers in your area is available from our office.
