It's out 60th Anniversary! Celebrate with Us!
Explore our special temporary exhibit 60 Years of Collecting and compare our collections to your own collections at home. Learn about our founding curator Joseph Herbert Neill and decorate your own paper craft based on Mr. Neill's two-sided cat. Will you be able to fool people as he did?

All Aboard!

Travel through the Huron County Museum as we investigate different ways of moving around. Learn how to build a ship, drive a team of horses and power a steam locomotive. Get your passport stamped along the way in order to receive your very own going away present.

Busy as a Bee

You have arrived at your new homestead. Imagine trying to build a whole barn yourself - just you and your family. Imagine trying to make enough supplies to last the winter for your whole family - by yourself. Investigate the idea of the work bee and how it made everyone's life a little easier. Examine the tools and manpower needed for a barn building bee and get together with the neighbours for a quilting bee.

First Winter

What was life like for some of Huron County's early settlers? Prepare for the trip from home to a new home, investigate life in a new place and discover the hardships of many early settler's first winters. Includes the movie First Winter.

Main Street Huron County

Visit the general store, print shop, dress shop, barbershop, dentist and more! Learn about life in a small town in the late 19th and early 20th century. Optional activity: learn to use a printing press.

Through a Child’s Eyes

Explore 19th century life through the eyes of a child. Learn what it was like at school and at home with work and play. Practice your penmanship on slate and graduate to nib pen & ink. Explore life at home and on the farm and experience a little fun along the way at the Huron County Museum.

Gaol Programs

If These Walls Could Talk

Discover life behind the stone walls at the Huron Historic Gaol. Follow early inmates from courtroom to cell and compare the life of prisoners with the life of their governor.
