Residents and visitors trust Huron County EMS with their most valuable possession - their health and the health of their loved ones. Paramedics respond to a wide range of medical calls during their shifts; including calls to save lives - restoring a heart beat, administering medication to reverse a diabetic coma or reopening airways in an asthmatic child . Paramedics also transfer critically and non-critically injured people from one medical facility to another.

Huron County's Emergency Medical Services (EMS):

  • Provides quality service through professionalism, innovation and teamwork
  • Employs 52 full-time and 22 part-time Primary/Advanced Care Paramedics, 6 Supervisors, plus Support Staff
  • Operates 12 Ambulances, 1 Emergency Response Vehicle and 1 Emergency Support Trailer
  • Maintains 4 ambulance bases located in Exeter, Goderich, Tuckersmith and Wingham, and 3 posts in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, Bayfield and Brussels
  • Responds to approximately 9,000 requests for ambulance service annually

All Huron County paramedics are graduates of a two-year Community College Ambulance and Emergency Care Program and have completed Provincial certification as an Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (A-EMCA). As well, many of these experienced Primary Care Paramedics have furthered their education through either full or part-time programs to obtain Provincial certification as Advanced Care Paramedics.
