The Ontarians with Disabilities Act, (ODA) 2001 requires all municipalities to prepare accessibility plans. Municipalities, including counties, of 10,000 or more residents are required to have an accessibility advisory committee, with members to include people with disabilities.
Mission Statement
The Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee shall fulfill the purpose of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 for participating municipal councils in our county by providing vision, direction and advice towards the removal of barriers.
The Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee shall work in collaboration with the Huron County Disability Act Working Group to review plans to promote and facilitate a seamless approach to effective barrier removal across the county in public municipal buildings.
Committee Members
The Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee is a joint committee with upper and lower tier municipalities (county and towns/townships within its boundaries) working together on accessibility initiatives. There are 12 voting members and the committee is supported by 5 non-voting members.
